Animals Spring 2013

Here is some new pics of the animals here at Fruit Tree Hill....

This is the new Banty coop made from vintage window screens from the house at the end of the street.. the neat couple that live there are in their 90's and they save EVERYTHING... including all the vintage window screens from their home! Awesome! Cost us about 12 bucks to do this coop... paint and hardware. It's all screened in and lovely!
That's Lola in their... she is a silver laced Wyandotte.. she has a booboo back from being Hershey's favorite, the hen saddles are in the mail!

This is Porter... he's on loan from a friend's farm, he is our Ameracauna Dolly's new beau... hehehe.

This is Teddy Bear.. he is the proud papa of 27 babies!!!!!!! He is a lionhead.

The white and brown bun in the back is Sebastian, he is a lionhead. The cinnamon/black colored Netherland Dwarf in the front is Little Bear.

This is Kevin.... our crazy polish rooster. He is crazy. Seriously. and he's in time out. so there.

Hello Elvis! He is our little banty roo, the protector of the eggs. He is a Silver Birchen Cochin Bantam.

These are the ducks! Chris and Pat... because we don't know if they are boys or girls !! They are playing in a mud puddle under the swingset! :)

Fresh Footage at the Farm March 2013

It's spring and the house is full of new babies ( because it's still freezing outside!! so they are in the house yikes!!) Here is some footage of the new babies... I couldn't get Paris and Foxy's babies because the lighting was to dark.... but this video features Violet and her babies, Winter, and the new baby chicks!! Enjoy!!

The Farm Accident

It was bound to happen.... when you're a farmer, whether a big operation or a teeny tiny urban "farmette" , you're going to have an animal or human get hurt. Last night we found our polish hen , Kate, had been pecked like crazy by the other three chicks in her coop... they were pulling her feathers out!!! She has a raw chicken meat back.... but we immediately asked for help on BYC and also my new friends at Missouri Chicken Swap on Facebook.... they were amazing telling us what to do to help our little Kate. She has always been weaker then the others... and she can't see because of her feathers ( she is getting a trim today!) so she was picked on :(    soooo awful!!! I will spare you the grizzly pictures... but after getting her all fixed up with medicine ( blu kote bought at farm and home) and having her sleep inside in roxie's pen, hehe, she looks great this morning!!! Keith made her a bachelorette pen... she can't be with the others anymore, we gotta keep her safe! So here is a fun pic of her waking up this morning ! She is like " what the heck am I doing in here???" :)

The Escape Artist

As much as I love the babies.... I will be happy when they can go outside to their coop. Brownie has learned she can escape. For the most part she just roosts, sometimes sleeping there all night! The other day, I walked out of the kitchen and into the dining room where their tub is, and what do ya know... I was met at the gate by Brownie who was just non-chalantly making her way towards the kitchen!! This morning she learned she can fly to the edge of the dining room table and perch on it. Hmm.... hurry up with the big coop already Keith!!!!

The babies are growing!

So I took the babies of Fruit Tree Hill out to enjoy some sunshine, while I cleaned their little brooder tub. They were so cute in the grass... they were so curious and happy! This is how I carried them out, in a box. LOL!!! I forgot to tell you their names... Cait, Dolly, Brownie, and Kevin... who is probably a girl, the kids just wanted to name it kevin. :)

I love my little polish chickens. I have two right now.... but I'm sure as we buy land etc that will be one of the breeds we stick with :) The other night, Cait had a little dirty bottom, so we gave her a bath. While she was wrapped in her towel, I decided to give her a mohawk with baby lotion. She just looked so adorable. :) I love my chickens.

The Babies of Fruit Tree Hill

Here are our sweet babies... not quite old enough to hang outside. They're loud and happy! They went outside for a bit yesterday while I cleaned their little bucket... they loved running around the play yard while the big chickens were in their coop ( they dont get along well with the big chickens.. big bad Hershey tries to protect his lovely ladies from the babies! silly rooster) anyway, the big chicken coop is almost done, so the big chickens can go in there and the four babies will go in this coop:
